100th Post || Your Questions Answered

Hey all!
We have our Q+A finally together! Though we most assuredly wanted to present a video instead of a read along, we ran into problems with our webcam and had to leave the thought behind.
We are so glad we got a great outcome and variety of questions! Thanks to each of you for your thoughts and time!
Without further ado...

Rebekah's Replies:

Ellie asks: What are your modesty standards?
My standards are simple. If I can see the top of my shirt [Looking down] I find it too hard to keep track of how low it's slipping etc... So: no shirts that I can see down the neck of.  For skirts, I mostly wear longer ones. But if they are my version of 'short', they are never above the knee or even half-way up. And as to tightness of any piece of clothing, I just skip it altogether. If it's tight it's a no-no. Cassie and I may someday do a post on why we don't wear pants/shorts/leggings or whatever you want to call 'em but for now suffice it to say that I do not wear pants.

Khloe asks: What are your current plans after graduation?
Hm... it's a bit too far away for me to have any certain plans but I would certainly enjoy an animal/farm related job [Such as I have now.] after I finish high school.

Khloe asks: What are your favorite school subjects?
Right now I am really enjoying Science.

Grace asks: What is your favorite book out of all of the ones you read?
I really do not think this is a question I'll be able to answer. Some of my favorite books are: the Widow of  Larkspur Inn, the Refiner's Fire series, and Wings of a Dream. These are a few that I love!

Grace asks: Who is your favorite classical music composer?
I enjoy Mozart and Beethoven but I don't listen to that much classical music. [I do enjoy it but the rest of the family not so much, so I don't have that much opportunity to listen to it...]

Grace asks: Have you ever read Swiss Family Robinson?
Yes! And of course watched the movie...

Brigid asks: What is your favorite food/meal?
Mashed potatoes, garlic chicken, peas, biscuits and milk! My favorite!!!

Brigid asks: What is your favorite color?
Green.

Brigid asks: What would your dream house look like?
It would be an old brick farm house with dark green shutters and white ginger-bread trim and all matching green outbuildings! [Surrounded by hundreds of acres of course!]

Brigid asks: Where is the dream location you would want to live?
My last answer half-answered this question but to further express my dream home in words: a field of wild flowers [Preferably poppies and black-eyed daises.] on one side and a horse pasture on the other. I would want it to be somewhere in Idaho probably, otherwise Montana! But, I have to say, since that probably will never happen, I'm perfectly happy living in MI right now-it's practically the safest place on earth! No earthquakes, floods/hurricanes, dust storms, or tornadoes here! [At least no tornadoes where we live, we get a few 'warnings' in the summer, but nothing ever happens!]

Laura asks: What is one item of clothing you have never made but would love to attempt?
Hm... I don't sew too much but it would be fun to make a pair of riding culottes like Dr. Quinn's with leather on the inseam. [Even more fun to have Cassie make 'em for me!]

Paige asks: What is one thing each of you would like to be skilled in that you currently are not (perhaps something you have never done before)?
Being a Math whiz would tremendously simplify my life but as I don't see myself gaining wisdom on that subject, being able to ride and sing better would be something I want to improve on.

Jessica asks: What are your girls' favorite quotes?
One that I recently heard is and really liked is,"It's not as hard to make decisions if when you know what your values are. ~Roy E Disney"
Another one is," What should not be heard by little ears should not be said by big mouths!~Anonymous"
Another, "You are what you do, not what you say you'll do."
One more for the road: "If a book is well-written, I always find it too short. ~Jane Austen"

Jessica asks: What is your favorite place to visit/travel to?
I would like to see Idaho, Montana, Ireland, etc..

Jessica asks: What is your favorite animal?
Being a complete animal person, it's hard to have a favorite, but I guess horses, dogs, and ducks are my favorites! [See! I can't even only have 2 favorites!]

Jessica asks: What do you have to say about courting?
I think courting is definitely the way to go...  I haven't formed too much of an opinion as of yet since I'm only 15!      ;-P

Jessica asks: Do you have many Christian brothers to converse with at Church besides your own?
Our church is really really small so no, we don't have any young men to converse with at this point. But we have recently begun going to a Saturday Sabbath meeting that has a few other homeschool families with boys pretty close to our ages. ;-)

Jessica asks: If you could go anywhere without a budget in mind, where would you travel to?
Shipshewana. It's an Amish/Mennonite market place located about 4 hours away from us that I went to last when I was probably only 4 or 5. [I'm so imaginative aren't I?]Oh! I just thought of another one! A farm auction! [I can spend all the money I want right???]

Jessica asks: What is your favorite childhood memory?
My Grandfather on my Dad's side teaching me how to swim.

Jessica asks: What is your favorite CHAPTER in the Bible?
Ugh! Favorite chapter eh? I really need to work on finding my favorite Bible-related things! As of now I can't truthfully say I have a favorite chapter in the whole Bible.

Jessica asks: What activity brings you the most joy and satisfaction?
Hahaha, this'll sound weird to all you non-farmer folks but, cleaning out the chicken coop! It leaves a certain feeling of accomplishment that is hard to top!     :-P

Jessica asks: What is your favorite historical era?
Late 1800's early 1900's is a favorite era of mine, also WWII...[Not that I enjoy war-time!]

Mary asks: What time in history would you want to travel back in time to?
Hard question!!! In spite of my love for floor-length prairie dresses, I think it would be great to go back to Bible times so I could have first-hand experiences of what really happened!

Mary asks: What's your favorite part of blogging?
I love 'talking to' all of you and hearing your thoughts!

Sarah asks:  How are you learning photography? Are you taking a course or teaching yourself? Any tips?
I have thought about taking a class but since I don't have a 'real camera' I have put it off.  I'm pretty much just taking good pictures with our iPhone.  ;-P

Natalie asks: How has God been working in your life lately?
Keeping the deep questions for last are we? Well,  going to the Sabbath Meeting I mentioned before has been very encouraging and fun! I think He's using it to show me the Bible in a different light.

Natalie asks: What are some things He's been calling you to do?
Be more of a light to the world through my attitude and not just in my way of dressing.

Natalie asks: What opportunities have you had to serve Him as of late?
Unfortunately I haven't had any, to my knowledge anyway!  :-]

Cassie's Replies:

Ellie asks: What are your modesty standards?
Okay! For shirts- about two or three fingers down from my collar bone, I know a lot of people will say more toward four, but for me I feel that that is too low, especially while bending over if you get my drift. Tightness is hard to describe, but if undergarments are being outlined the top should probably only be worn as an under layer.
I also only wear skirts, that we can get into more at a different time, but I like the hem to hit mid to below my knees and cover them while sitting.
Our family also doesn't allow sleeveless shirts to be worn by us girls past the age of ten or so.

Khloe asks: What are your current plans after graduation?
Well there is nothing set in motion yet, but I would love to get into some kind of nursing/doula classes. Fulfilling that need in third world countries is my motive.
Starting up an Esty shop with some of my own designs is also something that I would love to do. God has the plans- we shall see.

Khloe asks: What are your favorite school subjects?
I really like our Bible curriculum. Everything else I don't necessarily 'hate' but I just get through it.
Middle level English and eighth grade Science were my favorites.

Khloe asks: Cassie, your hair always looks so nice, is there a reason you always wear it up?
Great observation; there is not per-se 'a Biblical reason'. I am some what of an old fashioned kind of girl- woman used to wear their hair up alot- this gives me the vintage feel.
Also, for me, at times when I wear my hair down I kind-of feel lustful, if that makes sense.Especially if I have it completely loose. That's why I at least have it half up with a headband or barrette if I do.
And winter is pretty hard on my hair so it usually doesn't look as nice down.
And as you know a passion of mine is to do wonderful hair styling.Wearing my hair down sometimes makes me feel sloppy- I like to know what my hair looks like- ultimately I like an actual style much better. So I suppose it is a mixture of my style, who I am, and self confidence.

Grace asks: What is your favorite book out of all of the ones you read?
Oh  I so wanted to actually show you all the books! I even picked up the ones we don't own from the library! Anyway- my favorite genres are inspirational and historical fiction/non-fiction, here are a few that are my favorites- I am recommending them to y'all!
Novels, fiction and non-fiction:

'Lizzie Searches for Love' trilogy by Linda Byler
'While We're Far Apart' by Lynn Austin
'Until We Reach Home' by Lynn Austin
'Refiner's Fire' trilogy by Lynn Austin
'Wedded to War' by Jocelyn Green
'A Coal Miner's Bride' by Susan Campbell Bartoletti from the Dear America collection
'The Lightkeeper's Daughter' by Colleen Coble
'Love's Pursuit' by Siri Mitchell

Inspirational favorites:
'Preparing to be a Help Meet' by Debi Pearl
'Stepping Heavenward' by Mrs. E. Prentiss
'Beautiful Girlhood' revised by Karen Andreola
'Passion and Purity' by Elisabeth Elliot
'A Woman After God's own Heart' by Elizabeth George
'God's Priceless Woman' by Wanda Kennedy Sanseri

Grace asks: Who is your favorite classical music composer?
Classical really isn't my forte- so I really couldn't give a legitimate answer on this one.

Grace asks: Have you ever read Swiss Family Robinson?
Yes I have!

Brigid asks: What is your favorite food/meal?
Oh- I love peas (and just about every veggie and fruit besides tomatoes and celery) cheese-cake, Italian is probably my favorite category. I also love sandwiches-on good homemade bread of-course!
Annd mushrooms!

Brigid asks: What is your favorite color?
Green- no question. I also love orange, blue and purple. In that order.

Brigid asks: What would your dream house look like?
Oh! Probably a combination of a Victorian/farm-house in style, wooden siding- painted a delightful shade of green with honey yellow shutters, tall ceilings, beautiful dark woodwork, window seats, fireplaces, floral wall paper, a large kitchen, front and back porches, a long driveway, bursting with colorful flowers and landscape.

Brigid asks: Where is the dream location you would want to live?
I am pretty satisfied in Michigan so I would answer more of how I would want my actual surroundings to look- pastures toward the side as you drive up, outbuildings; including a summer kitchen, a long clothes line; near to a horse pasture, mountains behind the house, a barn over-run with wild flowers, and luscious trees all-around.

Laura asks: What is one item of clothing you have never made but would love to attempt?
Hey- great question! I have wanted to make a regency gown for a while- hopefully that will still be able to make it's way into the Historical Sew Fortnightly challenges! Also, a collared button up complete with cuffs, has been on my list.

Paige asks: What is one thing each of you would like to be skilled in that you currently are not (perhaps something you have never done before)?
Nice question Paige! I would love to learn more about natural healing and calligraphy!

Jessica asks: What are your girls' favorite quotes?
More of the quotes that I like and that come to mind are from songs and books.
"Though none go with me I will still follow."
"No matter how deep our darkness, He is deeper still." -Corrie Ten Boom
"I don't want sunbursts or marble halls, I just want you." -Anne Shirley
"Through the rustling grass I hear Him pass, He speaks to me everywhere." -'This is my Father's World'

Jessica asks: What is your favorite place to visit/travel to?
We love driving to Nebraska in the summer, and visiting Shipshewana

Jessica asks: What is your favorite animal?
Oh- horses, cats, ducks and goats are my favorite.

Jessica asks: What do you have to say about courting?
I am for it! :) I think that though it is oft heard- the Duggar girls have pin-pointed the best explanation when they say, that when you date this and that person you are most assuredly giving away parts of who you are. That when you come to that time you should be "dating with a purpose" instead of just to have fun.
I also feel that chaperoning is a great practice. Though at this point I have come to believe that once you have said 'yes' you should be able to have some time completely alone- being able to keep control and stay faithful to the decisions you have set in place.

Jessica asks: Do you have many Christian brothers to converse with at Church besides your own?
What an interesting question Jessica! :) Our church has undergone a lot these past four years- a lot of our families have moved on- from reasons to, be blunt, bad attitudes and a call from the Lord. We have been struggling with exactly how to act. Anyhow, your main question- there are practically no boys(or other kids) at our Sunday service church which is one reason we have branched out into Saturday Sabbath meetings also- there are a lot of like-minded families with young adults our age. Our siblings have had a great time meeting new friends also! We have all enjoyed it so much! ;)

Jessica asks: If you could go anywhere without a budget in mind, where would you travel to?
Humm- I would love to see Ireland!

Jessica asks: What is your favorite childhood memory?
:) Once when I was about six or seven our entire family on my Mom's side went to Nebraska for a family reunion. Since there was so many people trying to get situated, my cousin, who I am very close to, had to sleep in a crib! We still talk about it from time to time and I am so happy that someone took a moment to capture us with one of those wind-up cameras! We each have a copy of the photo.

Jessica asks: What is your favorite CHAPTER in the Bible?
Colossians 3. It talks about rules for Christian living and guidelines for a godly home. I'm kind-of a rules oriented girl- tell me what you want me to do so I can do it!
It also contains my favorite verse: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord and not for man."

Jessica asks: Who do you admire most in your life?
:) Not to put anyone else to shame but- my Mom. She is so reverent in worship, caring, stable, and an amazing Proverbs 31 lady! I am ever so blessed by all she has done for me and for our family!

Jessica asks: What activity brings you the most joy and satisfaction?
Oh! Wonderfully worded! Working in our frugal flower beds, keeping things clean around the house and donning something that I have created bring me joy!

Jessica asks: What is your favorite historical era?
Hmm- It used to be the 1700's because of the fabulous gowns but I think I lean more toward the late 1800's up to WW1. And the 1940's!

Mary asks: What time in history would you want to travel back in time too?
Weeel- maybe WW1 when there was such a need for nurses.

Mary asks: What's your favorite part of blogging?
This may not be very original, but I love hearing from our readers! That is why we do what we do! Hearing if an outfit gave inspiration or a verse encouraged makes all the difference!

Natalie asks: How has God been working in your life lately?
I would like to kind of switch this round to 'what has he been working on you lately?'
To be more of a worshipper. At times for me it is hard for me 'lift up holy hands'. To show a calm, visible action of worship.
To let my own thoughts and standards be only my own!

Natalie asks: What are some things He's been calling you to do?
To still go on the Missions trip even with all of the up-rising in that area.

Natalie asks: What opportunities have you had to serve Him as of late?
Well the Missions trip to Lithuania for one and helping raise a little girl that we babysit- It makes all the difference for them to be brought up in a Godly home while they are young! Even though her parents are great, she would have to be at a day-care if we didn't 'take her in' so I am happy that we have that chance to be part of her life!

                                                                    Thank you dear friends!
