To Die is Gain || Antique Brown

Howdy! I'm hoping that you all have had a great week thus far! Both Monday and yesterday were spent picking up hand-me-down furniture from our grandparents and rearranging it in our schoolroom area. I'm so glad everything fit were we had planned for it to go! It is wonderful to have matching oak furniture instead of conglomerated this-and-that! We made sure to get some pictures for photo-a-day to share with yee!

"For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain...having a desire to depart and to be with Christ which is far better."     Philippians 1:21,23

I had not originally planned on wearing a jacket over this fabulous sheer blouse. The shirt actually has elbow length sleeves, but the band of hem binding was far too tight, therefore it has been hung, awaiting a speedy alteration, but since it was not appropriate for the season I let it sit. I decided to jump ahead and wear it. So Saturday eve I removed the original binding to replace it, loosening out some of the gathers. Anyway- it was not quite as warm as I was hoping so at the last minute I grabbed my old reliable brown jacket.
Bek and I got to talking with our neighbors who were driving past from their church services that I neglected to take photos without the jacket. Sorry- I really had planned to! Though I know I will wearing it again- it would have been nice.
Shoes- American Eagle brand thrifted $3 // Random hose // Slip- made by me // Skirt- Dress Barn brand thrifted $4 // Undershirt- thrifted at a bag sale // Shirt- American Living goodwill $3 // Jacket- thrifted have had for a long while // Both hair rosettes and lapel accessory gifted
Have you yet to take notice of how much I am drawn to naturals? I think that most browns and certain tans complement my natural color. Plus it suits my personality. It is great to finds those colors you love- I can usually snatch out something to throw on because I have alot that can easily blend. I really, really like how this scramble turned out!

This wonderful lapel accessory was given to me by a dear friend back around Christmas. I of course loved it, the great sewing charm and delicate rosette are definitely me. Trying to retrieve the correct metal chain to pair with it though has been rather daunting, for one reason or another, I have not found one yet. Though I would still like to snatch up some kind of chain for it, I am rather liking it just pinned on.
"If I were annihilated this moment, I should bless God for having been allowed to live. Far more, if I were to have to toil and suffer in this sorrowful but glorious earth-life through unnumbered ages, and the sorrow and suffering here on earth. How much more, then, when I expect, and am sure, that a vary few years more will place me with these precious life-powers in a world fitted for highest life, with life intensified, and all the pure great life of ages gathered there, besides those whom I have dearly loved."                - Edward Thring

He is talking about Heaven...We as Christians have already won the battle and the power of death the day we accepted Him! Death has no power over us because since we have Heaven, we can actually look forward to it!
"The general peace of love."  - Emmaline Harris of Anne of Avenlie
"Our present life in Christ may be compared to that of the seed; a hidden life, contending underground against cold and darkness and obstructions, yet bearing within its breast the indestructible germ of vitality. Death lifts the soul into sunshine for which a hidden, invisible work has prepared it. Heaven is the life of the flower."
                                                                                        - Dora Greenwell

"Death has been swallowed up in victory."
                                                                                    1 Corinthians 15:54

I may be going to something a bit unusual this evening- our hometown Fiber Festival is putting on a speedy demonstration of antique underpinnings. Though it would mean skipping our usual evening church services, I'm not sure if I will be able to attend, though would be quite interesting and right down my alley. Twill be much better than going to the dentist tomorrow though!

"Therefore, my brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know your labor in the Lord is not in vain."  1 Corinthians 15:58

Do you mind going to the dentist?
Would you come to the demonstration with me if you could?
Are naturals a favorite of yours?

May spring be delivered to your door soon!

  1. This is a simply lovely outfit Cassie! :) The blouse is cute. I used to like naturals a lot in my earlier teen years, and now I'm into brighter colors (often paired with naturals). I'll probably change again...haha!
Sorry you have to go to the dentist. :\ I don't like it either. The last time I went was to get a filling replaced that had fallen out! O.o

  2. Hi Cassie! This outfit is lovely! I don't like the dentist, but I have to go every month for my braces. I'm getting them off this month so . . . yay!!!

I would love to go to the demonstration with you if I could! :)

I have a mix of naturals, pastels, and bright colors in my closet. I have some naturals and some bright things. I like bright, fresh colors because they tend to make me feel bright and fresh. I do wear other colors at other times, however . . . it depends on the mood I'm in. ;)

    God Bless,
    Natalie

I have the same name as you AND I have braces. I can feel your pain...the dentist is no fun at all, and braces are even more terrible! :( I'm having mine off soon-in a month or two. :) Good luck with yours! And congratulations that you get to have them off!

    2. Hi Natalie! Yes, braces are tough, but they are worth it! I saw a picture of my teeth before braces yesterday and was like, "Wow . . . my teeth WERE crooked!" Now they are straight, and I'll be getting them off soon. Only thing is . . . I have my wisdom teeth coming in, and that may mean problems. I'm not sure because I haven't asked my orthodontist yet. I don't want pulled teeth!!!:(
Congrats on getting your braces off soon! :)
      God Bless,
      Natalie

    3. Yes, they are worth it! My teeth weren't terrible to begin with, but I really wanted them straighter. They're still not perfect, but that's okay. I would have had to have a tooth pulled if I wanted them perfect-and I didn't want any teeth pulled, just like you! I hope you don't have to have any pulled!!
      Thanks! ~Natalie :)

ps. Sorry for clogging up your comments box, Cassie! :)

  7. Really like these colors together Cassie! I agree, Browns do look good on you. I like neutral browns (camo anyone??) but also really like wearing bright pinks, purples, and oranges. The brighter colors fit my personality better.:)

I have a sheer blouse very similar to yours, only it is purple. I have been thinking about wearing it this same exact way, with a cardi, but haven't tried to see how it looks. I may have to try now!

Thankfully, I don't have to go to the dentist. My sister Kat, has braces though, and she actually seems to like going! But, she was also excited to get braces... She couldn't wait to have straight teeth!
