This challenge, as you very well may know, is to create something with the color scheme black and/or white. Ha ha! Well I've got a bit of white in this darling seersucker fabric! I really had zero clue as to what I was going to have ready for this challenge today. Since I basically only had this week to actually create, I am amazingly happy with how this project same together!
If you have been with us for a while, you just may remember me sharing with you a vintage pattern haul with you. And, just how happy I was about this pattern! Using it for the first time was so much fun! I used view 1 (pictured above) without the pocket. For some reason I was thinking it would cut back on time. That was before I had the idea of adding the belt. Ha ha!
I had this set of buttons and matching buckle set aside for a dress, but white buttons were seeming tacky (even though it could have been historically accurate) to me and I can always switch them out if the time comes around. Are they not fabulous?!
The Challenge: due Thur 15 May. Draw on the opposite ends of the shade spectrum to create something in black and white, or black or white.
Fabric: 2 yards of cotton seersucker- thrifted for $3.
Pattern: vintage Simplicity 3745- thrifted for .45 cents.
Year: 1944
Notions: Four vintage buttons with matching buckle- bin of sewing nick-nacks. And a bit of interfacing. Oh! and one of my own tags- gifted.
How historically accurate is it? Oh goodness! The pattern is dated quite a bit later, but adding the belt helped the silhouette alot. So in shape- yes in fabric not so much. 80% ish.
Hours to complete: 3
First worn: Today!
Total cost: Just under $5 (!) sounds about right.
We are off to town! It will be nice to meander along the rest of the day since we have the rest of each day this week filled with work and events. And I somehow don't mind the rainy-ness that has been upon us this week. I'm just so happy for the green sprigs everywhere you look!
