Outfit // Time Flies

Outfit // Light Dots
Hi there! It's crazy how time seems to literally fly by, before you can even take a chance to look at the sky's clouds; it's as if tomorrow becomes last week without even a second glance. Before you know it you're a year older, a week behind in blogging, finally wearing a skirt you've been searching all winter past to find, and suddenly realize that life just does not slow down without extreme effort.

You can blame our absence on our rural living. Well, some of it I'd say. At the beginning of last week we had a storm hit that left us without electricity for a day and night and internet problems that lasted until the weekend. Which didn't end up helping much with swinging yet again back into blogging,  because we were out of town this past weekend with Dutch Heritage Live putting on a small show in Illinois.

Last week we also began our annual summer work on the blueberry farm. I'm still babysitting two to three days a week (usually 8-10 hour days), so needless to say having time to put together a blog post has really been completely and unfortunately off my radar.

The time I do have free, I really have to make extreme effort to get tasks done that are important. Most seem not to get done. Which tends to leave me less enthralled with trying the next day to get things marked off my list. I guess that comes with growing up; needing to space your time out more wisely- learning to juggle it all.

One of the very best days last week was the beautiful dinner celebration for my birthday Mom put together for me. The plan was for Bek and I to work at the farm the morning/afternoon of my big day. But with a bit of procrastination of berries not wanting to ripen, I was, to Mom's dismay, home bound for the day. So I was shooed from the main level of the house as she began scurrying about and bossing the other kids to make an absolutely delicious dinner for us to eat that evening. Handmade chicken and spinach raviolis, steamed broccoli, loaves of freshly baked French bread drowned in olive oil-cooked garlic cloves, and a scrumptious white chocolate cheesecake with raspberry sauce she served us; to wave another year behind me, and to welcome a new one that is sure to be full of surprises. It was just so beautiful. My Great-Grandmother's china was even dug up to help celebrate the occasion with elegance. I shall remember it always.

Outfit: I'd been searching and searching and searching for a classy polka dotted skirt for months, when I finally came across this adorable one at Goodwill a couple months ago now. Since at the moment we don't have a fellowship to attend church services with, the skirt that I'd searched so long for had no reason to be worn and hung in my row of skirts, waiting to be paired with a shirt or two that hangs above. Sunday before last, we thought it would be fun to visit some family at their church, so I of course reached for the skirt I'd been awaiting to wear. It ended up to be a bit of a challenge to pair up with things without it looking too stern (like with just a white button up) or too stuffy (like it did when I paired a brown jacket with it) for the summer days. So I did a bit of layering with some light weight pieces, added a brown flat, and leggings beneath for modesty and was set. I then did a slightly messy Gibson tuck in my hair, leaving some ends to hang out behind, with a lace headwrap I'd concocted from an old tank top the week before. It ended up being the perfect outfit for the windy afternoon. Don't you think that bandanna hem (of the skirt) just begs for a bit of a breeze? Its by far one of my most fun skirts to don now.

Well folks, that's all for today! I hope your past week has been a blessed one, that the Lord has blessed you in those small ways that are somehow so much more impactful than the bigger ones. Like finding a skirt you've been searching for that you don't truly need, or seeing your Great-Grandmother's china around the table at the places of your loved ones. Time is truly precious.

When was the last time you lost electricity?
What clothing item are you in search of right now?
Do you like cheesecake?

Love & blessings,

Cannot even recall the last time I lost electricity, it has probably been months! hahaha! But when it does happen it is usually in the evening. Yes, I adore cheesecake and my preference is strawberry. I believe nothing else comes close! haha! :)

    Every blessing,
