Playing Catch-Up

Playing Catch-Up
Hello and happy September all! This past week or so has went by SO quickly! Really, I'm not even quite sure how it's got to be Sabbath already today! And boy, have we been busy! Much of what I want to talk about in this post is what we've been up to and the things that we have to work and look forward towards. Life can get away from us if we let it, and so in lieu of that happening this past week with blogging, I'd like to catch you up on life around the Shag house these days.

Its crazy that summer has already started to take flight, and that its companion is soon coming. This bit of the season has proven to be getting busier and busier, so our regular postings of Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and every other Saturday have been a bit of a scramble to achieve. Though blogging has its grand awards, it does take time to schedule, photograph and write up posts. So when actual LIFE gets going, there's  sometimes very little time to recap it in perfect order. All this to say is that I'm personally going to try to be a bit more lax with our "scheduling " and pressing of posts from my blogging partner and just do the best I/we can with the time we're given to blog instead of missing out on the moments like the the photo above captures. ;)

That being said- I'm ready and able to share some of the bits of life we've been enjoying of late.

The last weekend of each month during the summer, there's a HUGE mainly outdoor vintage and antique show that sets up each year on our area's fairgrounds. We usually try to make it a few times a year, but this year we planned to just go once or twice since we've been having much of our family's monies going onto finishing up the kitchen's remodeling/expansion. So the last Sunday in August we girls got up early and headed out. Its so much fun to talk to people and see what they've come to know of about past eras. We had an absolute blast of the morning and afternoon; going out to a late lunch on the way home and taking a nice long nap after hauling in some delightful buys. Oh! Which reminds me- Bek and I came across a lady whose booth was the aftermath of the years she'd spent in the business of selling woman's vintage clothing! Her prices were amazing due to the fact of her giving up the business. I'm super excited about what we walked away with and too to put some outfits together to blog about with the darling pieces!

Oh and, yes that hat there you see is all I got to bring home of it's delicacy. I absolutely adored it, but since I have no reason as of right now to spend such a hefty price on such an item, I snapped a couple photos and walked away from that booth with a pair of 1920's silk stockings instead.

Next is more of a short update on my baby sitting/nanny job, than a "something we've done lately". My days there vary from week days, so its hard to be able to know where my free time falls. The days are usually quite long (8+ hours) so once I am home, blogging is usually the last thing on my list of "musts". Now that the eldest has started attending school again just this past week, we're hoping to get me on a better schedule, but we shall see. Haha!

Oh and my is the little one growing! Its been a complete joy of the job to see the little fellow begin to be awake more during the day, cut teeth, start crawling, and exploring every inch of their house. I started working for the couple right after this little one was born so he definitely has a place in my heart as I've been with him since his first days. Crazy to think that seven months have already passed!

As you now can imagine from what I've stated above and as I said, among with family life and working, I've had a very minuscule amount of hours to work on things that I enjoy lately. Such as blogging. Yet how amazing it feels to get something done when you have a chance and the energy needed! I finally was able to get my sewing corner back in order last weekend, I do believe. And yay, for once I thought to take before and after shots before the job was done! Anyways, now that its workable again, I feel like starting up a new project will be less of a thought and more able to become a reality. The bit of gardening I've been able to do over the summer has been such a nice thing to come home to after my long days away of watching the boys. Its been so nice to see those moss roses multiple almost faster than the weeds. ;)

If you've been following the blog for at least a few months, you'll know that our family has been active in Dutch Heritage Live and a local Civil War muster. Both events are keeping us busy; we're traveling again in a couple weeks for DHL and the Civil war event is also coming upon us again, also in the next couple of weeks. Most of the baking and cooking will be happening this week for the latter and practices will begin next week to be able to put on our Dutch show in Illinois at the end of the month. We're all in great anticipation for them both, but in order for each of them to happen, many hours of being here and there are going to have to ensue. We'll of course keep you posted on them both as we know our readers like the chance to travel along with us on our gallivants. :)

Thanks for taking a minute or two of your time to catch up a bit with me! I hope your week has went by well and that you're enjoying the beautiful fall weather wherever you are.

So, please do leave a comment telling us about something you've done lately!

Until Monday then,

Cassie

    1. Hi Tori! The dates for the muster are this coming Saturday & Sunday- the 19th and 20th. Its held at the Van Raltte farm on 16th street; right down from the older Meijers. Do you think you'll be able to stop by?! :)

Oh, and regards to your thrifting questions; we'd love to have you come along with us one day soon! As of right now we don't really have a set day for our errand running, so setting a date may be a bit hard. But maybe we can get our Moms talking and set something up! That surely would be fun to do together!

      Blessings,

  2. Goodness you have been busy dear! The busyness of life has caught up with us girls in the past few weeks, as certain life events (i.e. Charlotte starting up school again, among other things) have taken place, so blogging has taken a back seat in our schedule too. I am so glad that you are able to have an influence in those little boys' lives. That is such a precious gift to have.

And I want you to know that I have been praying for you dear as you go through this year. :)

    Blessings in Him,
