Outfit // 1950's Touch

Outfit // 1950's Touch
Hello everyone! I hope the week or so that I been gone here from the blog has brought you blessings! I for one have been pretty busy as usual. With much to keep me occupied, power outages, and thoughts of the future; have all detained me in one way or another from writing here. Some times its nice to just be able to have some quiet time don't you think?

It's pretty amazing how our Father works, is it not? How He just intertwines things to mesh perfectly, leaving one quite breathless and in awe of His works.

About a month or so ago, the couple from the blueberry farm where Bek and I work at during the Summer months and when need be, asked if we could possibly keep an eye on the place while they both traveled to another State for a few days. Of course it would be our pleasure we said and hoped that things would work out so our mini "vaca" could happen.

Well it did. Wonder of all wonders, God made it possible for me to squeeze it into my babysitting hours and I was able to spend some much needed hours of peacefulness on that tranquil acreage.

I packed this dress along in my over night bag to be able to run about in to photograph it finally. I picked it up a month or two ago at an antique show for just a few dollars. Though I do think I'll let the hem out a bit (it has a double folded 6" hem in the bottom) I thought it would be perfect for just the time of year we're in!

I thought I'd throw a few quick tips out for how to wear a shorter button-up dress modestly as this can be a bit tedious at times. And since this season is all able button-ups and such, what perfect time to do it, eh?

1.) Wear an undershirt. This I know may seem like a complete given to most of you considering, but just as a reminder, we don't want any "in-between button hole gaping". So remember to take heed of this and be glad that layering is also part of this season.

2.) Wear tall boots. I know the last few outfit posts I've done already this season have included my pleather pairs of fall boots, but I'm telling you, you've really got to get some! Not only are they cozy and flattering, but they do a tremendous job at shielding a bit more leg you may not want to show off. Plus since they're most flattering with shorter skirts/dresses, this helps expand your wardrobe as many of your shorter Summer skirts could then be worn into the next months following.

3.) Wear leggings. Leggings and I have a "love, hate relationship". There are days I feel like I just don't want to go there and other days I want to go to the fabric store for material to make more asap! Essentially wearing them in the Fall (especially under shorter garments) is a huge plus as you never know when those Autumn gusts could bring your once perfectly roomy and modest skirt far past your knees- Heaven forbid! Though really I've had this happen very few times in my many years of skirt wearing, being able to be completely free without the constraint a slip at times can bring, leggings still gives you that option to pair knee highs with things which the option otherwise would have been lost save you had chosen say a pair of tights.

Straight from babysitting then to farm/house sit, I was going to then be headed to our area's annual Right to Life dinner. So the night before I wet my hair and rolled it in a few sock curlers to give my hair a bit more prep and life for the following evening. I just did a what I like to think, a little mid 50's messy chignon bun for the day and hour of the photo shoot. If anything else it was nice to act all dramatic in front of the camera for Bek with bits of curl pulling loose. ;)

So, what's been keeping you busy?
Do you have any tips for wearing such an outfit?

How has God blessed you lately?

  4. Oh, the hair... I wish I pull this off! I do have long hair (to my waist), but its fine texture allows it to work its way out of every updo I try most days. I also have never gotten into curlers of any sort... :( Well, it was lovely seeing it on someone else!!! :)

    1. Hello there! Thanks ever so much!!

A thing you may want to try dear is to strip up old socks (sounds odd I know) into about 2"X6" pieces and wrap only SLIGHTLY damp hair sections using them; tying them off close to your head. This is best for curly hair updo's. ;)

Also, if you have trouble with hold, I'd recommend trying out Lilla Rose inc. They have a very unique clip in many styles that works wonders. :)

  6. Those are all wonderful tips Cassie, and such a lovely outfit too! I also wear an undershirt under blouses and other garments so that I don't have to wash the "outer" garments as often. The undershirt absorbs all the sweat, and then I can put that through the wash rather than some wool blouse or dress I may have been wearing that day.

    1. Hi Brigid! I couldn't agree more! Funny how back in the day things like this were thought up just for those reasons, back when laundering was much more work also.

      Thank you SO much. :)

      Blessings,
      Cassie
