Happy Independence Day!

Happy Independence Day!
Happy Independence Day to y'all! We celebrated our country's birthday of freedom a day early this year, so I'm able to share with you all this post of our happenings along with my outfit I sported over the weekend day-of! As we light fireworks, have cookouts with friends and family, and sport the red white and blue of our grand old flag for the 240th year and counting of our country's liberation, may we all not be caught up in merely the festivities, but the reason we celebrate and to those we should be forever grateful to.

Happy Independence Day!
Pairing this easy going chambray maxi dress first with neutrals and orange for a birthday party on Saturday and then switching out those colors for a little RW&B come Sunday, was oh so the perfect comfort for the busy weekend with the start of dog/house sitting, kid pick up/drop off, baking ect! My Grandma got me the main attraction, the scarf, which was just perfect since I realized my gap of a red scarf in my collection which I'll have to remedy soon.

Baking has become one of my favorite therapeutic pass times these past few months. Throw on some music and I'm in Heaven!
The recipe for the first picture is from Natasha's Kitchen. This is her Strawberry Sponge Cake. A bunch of her recipes are some of my favorites- they're easy to follow, proven, and also just right level for beginners as well as someone like me who's been taught early on the basics and wants to experiment more.  As you can see, I decorated my sponge cake for the holiday, but I absolutely love the way Natasha piped hers along with little strawberries, so I'll definitely have to give that variation a go next time as I was quite impressed with the recipe!
Next up, of the two items I made for the get-together we had Sunday with our close family friends, was that adorable little black cap pie above. We'd went wild black cap picking the Friday before and I knew it would be grand to make up a pie to share with some of our gatherings. I used this pie crust recipe and the ingredient combination for this black berry pie recipe from here. How cute it turned out, eh? The little girls and I had great fun with the crust and topping!

Each year we usually get together with our dear family friends whom we've known over a good decade. This year though was a bit different as we usually spend more of the time outdoors than we did this year, and also, the guys usually put off a little fireworks show for the rest of us, but with our friends' Grandpa unable to come who usually is in charge of such things, the kids just put off a few fireworks and played out for a bit with the Dads. We girls though kept up our tradition of taking a walk across the road to the blueberry farm we three work summers at. (Bek, our friend, and I.)
With the arrival of a SUPER exciting new equipment piece for the blog, (more on that to come!) we had a marvelous time taking photos out at sunset in the fields. That is, Bek did, I basically just carried the luggage. ;) But oh the results! So amazing! Hoping she'll begin sharing her photography here on the blog with y'all! We shall see!

What were your plans for Independence Day?

Many blessings,
