As you will definitely notice, I am using the Dutch words for days of the week! I will also throw in a few other Dutch formuleren [words]! This is a peek into our week and in a few days we'll be doing a more thorough Tulip Time post! We hope that you all have had an amazing week!

| Vrijdag: my two lifelong friends; Rags and Lady. [Lady is on the left, Rags on the right.] The little meisjes [girls] will be using them during the Dutch Heritage Show in a song called Onze Mop. |

Zaterdag: this is the banket we have been talking about! If you come to Tulip Time and see this huls [packaging], know that we made it!
Zondag: I found a kind dat ann de borst is konijn [baby rabbit] while gathering some grass for our geit [goat]! We plan to keep it for a few weeks 'til it can fend for itself...
Maandag: costumes costumes tenues [costumes]! Not that you can tell very well but from links [left] to rechterzijde [right] the costumes are: Gronigen, Urk [man's], Middleburg, Volendam [woman's], Urk, Isle of Marken, Staphorst, Walchren, another woman's Volendam, another Urk [woman's], Achterhook [man's], Zuid Beveland, and Freisland!
Dinsdag: our Mom was in a pig-making contest and won 3rd prize! ;-)
Woensdag: Mom and Peter picking out a movie to rent. Time to plop down on the couch and kick
up our hout schoen! [Wooden shoes.]
Donderdag: our adorable cousin Chloe stopped by in her Freisland costume!
Vandaag, heden: beautiful green buds on a tree in our gevel tuin [front yard].

Thanks for commenting Bethany! It would be really strange to go to Tulip Time somewhere else! But it would be fun to see how they do things there and what costumes they incorporate... I wish I knew more Dutch than I do. I know a few words in 'Pennsylvania Dutch', which is what the Amish speak.

I've heard a lot about Tulip Time before, but never been to anything before. It looks so interesting! Is your family's heritage Dutch?
ReplyDeleteYes and no... My Grandma on my Mom's side is 100 percent German, and my Great-Grandma on my Dad's side was Dutch. Those are our main 'percentages'. :-) But we have an Indian last name because my Dad's dad was adopted by Pottawatomie Indians during the Great Depression. ;-)

So fun for me as a dutch girl that people so far away have a dutch festival. You all look so nice! The wooden shoes are called klompen. And when you translate it it called houten schoen. Geniet van jullie festival! Hartelijke groeten uit de polder! Sjoukje

Yes real Dutch people do :) I live in the Netherlands. I live in Lelystad it is a place near by Urk. About a twenty minute drive. Lelystad is build in 1960 in the middle of new land. Where i live it was a former sea! Because of the dijken we can live here. Thanks for you're great blog!
