Outfit // 1950's Touch

Outfit // 1950's Touch
Hello everyone! I hope the week or so that I been gone here from the blog has brought you blessings! I for one have been pretty busy as usual. With much to keep me occupied, power outages, and thoughts of the future; have all detained me in one way or another from writing here. Some times its nice to just be able to have some quiet time don't you think?

Outfit // Jewel Fall

Outfit // Jewel Fall
Hello all! I'm not too sure about you, but I for one think it's crazy that October is already in full swing. September seemed like a week of time instead of four and the thought that winter is coming soon leaves me savoring these last couple of months before we find ourselves having to bundle up. (Not to mention getting back into the dreaded "taking-outfit-pictures-as-fast-as-possible-before-you-freeze" phase for we bloggers!)

Outfit // Shabby Chic Refashion

 Outfit // Shabby Chic Refashion
Hello everyone! The weekend we'd been anticipating went by so well! The whether was amazing for the Civil War event and I'm super excited to show you all some pictures we captured from it over the next few days. But as for today I though I'd ease our way back into posting with a little dress refashion I completed the weekend beforehand, and share about something that's on my heart today.

Outfit // Striped Cardi

IMG_8548
Hi all! It seems like ages since our last outfit post has aired here on the Blog! Even though it has only been two short weeks since I shared one with you. I think that we have been preoccupied with sharing old magazines, controversial thoughts, and our photo a day series, to have another opening on our little schedule for fashion talk. It was a good break really, but I like to have differing posts here on the Blog and you know, fashion has to be one of them.

Outfit // Indepedence Day (+Life & an Announcement!)

Hello all! Goodness! Our lack of posting since we have been back have most assuredly lead you to believe that we have been busy- too busy, and you would be right. House sitting, computer problems, power outages, dying refrigerators, day-in-and-day-out baseball games, plus my new cleaning job (more on that later) has kept the blog at arms length. Now that you have a clue to what we have been up to, I am bursting to share with you our big announcement. So as they say, without further adieu...

Outfit // What I Wore on Resurrection Sunday

Hello all! We are busy over here getting ready for our big week of Tulip Time. Each year it seems to creep up on us even with all of our preparations. Last minute costume alterations, 200 banket sticks to make and package, and daily toils has made our family very grateful for our fabulous Sabbath weekend before the event actually begins.

Outfit // Almost Here Darling

Boy, have I missed you all! Since our 'tragedy' that Rebekah wrote about in our last post, we ended up deciding that it would be far too much trouble to blog on this little contraption. Seeing that the pictures we had our posts planned around for this week had already been down loaded to our laptop and just the fact that the format of this thing is so wacky, lead us to these delays- just in case you have been worried about us. :)

Something Dressy | Modernized 30's and 40's Holiday Attire

Hey dearies! This weekend went smoothly. Though I don't think that I have mentioned on here, (oddly enough) we have been practicing in our Grandmother's bell choir the past month to participate in a small group which was to perform their selected songs yesterday. You may have read through the grapevine of comments on other blogs of our slightly rare endeavor. It has been so much fun! We focused on the main notes ( with color coded bells :) ) this year, but we would love to take it a step further next year!

Our Church also had a special service this week since Christmas is just a breath away. For the past few years we have had either groups or families bring forth a 'gift' for the entire Body, whether it be to sing, play an instrument, recite a Bible passage, or even pass out goodies at the end of the service, we all have enjoyed it so very much! It is a great option for a small country Church. :) Since our family had been battling the flue and colds these last weeks, we did not have enough time to prepare for our usual singing, we will be happy if we get to follow through next week.

Despite our still recovering throats, we lasted through our leading of 'Jesus Loves Me' and made it through the actual play at our Grandparents' Church, which we also had parts in!
All to say we had a very (long) enjoyable week!

The wonderful dress I found last year right before the holiday season. I was thrilled! I had not had a special Christmas dress for a few years! I would prefer it slightly longer, for modesty reasons, but for seven dollars, who can complain ? If I thought it was too 'if-y' I would not have bought it.  :)
I love the slight 20's/30's look the drop-waist gives off. It is so fun to have a dress that is both modern and has a vintage vibe to it. It was amazing that just a few months (I believe) before finding this dress I had found a silk vintage drop-waist slip to wear with this, making it just a dream to wear!  :)
To keep the simple pre-depression look going, I wore the shoes that we recently bought. They have a small wedge/heel and a simple Mary-jane like strap. I have a pair of more 1920's-looking heels, but I really feel that they were not *modest enough to wear with this short skirt. (*Because they are fairly tall.) Rebekah wore the shoes last week which you can view here. These are most definitely going to be a great staple for us!
One of my Mother's life long friends, out of the blue, presented me with this necklace! I took the chance to wear the beautiful piece! It was so lovely of her! Adding my pearled bobby pins (see how to make them in a link below) was a a no-brainer. :)

I could not decide whether to curl my hair and leave it down or vouch for this beloved style. Obviously I ended up with the pin curled styled updo. I am glad that I did, since we had so many events to attend to,
it stayed lovely all day with only a bit of fixing in-between. Plus I got to enjoy the curliness today! :)

 Shoes, thrifted/sale, $1.40 // Tights, gifted // Slip, vintage drop-waist, thrifted, $3 // Dress, thrifted, $7 // Shrug, thrifted, $4 // Necklace, 1928 brand, gifted // Pearl bobby pins, made by me

A pair of borrowed heels (from Mom) really made Rebekah's outfit come together! I had originally bought the skirt to alter for my own use, but it fit Rebekah so wonderfully that we both decided she needed to wear it at least once before I go scissor happy with it! :)
Didn't it turn out beautifully ?! I love that she chose gold accents. And the red ribbon was ingenious!

A different blouse probably would have brought out more of the 40's flair had to offer, but hey, this is what she had!  :) Sometimes it is what it is...

Here Bekah's eyes were probably frozen shut. ;-)

We fashioned her hair in a loose gibson girl tuck for the evening performances.
It looked perfect for the 40's feel to the rest of her outfit.

Shoes,  Clark's, borrowed from Mom // Stockings, thrifted, .50 // Slip, cotton skirt, thrifted, $3 // Skirt, borrowed from Cassie, thrifted, $3 // Undershirt, thrifted, $2 // Shirt, Old Navy, thrifted, $4 // Heart Locket Necklace, $1// Ring, gift-free! // Headband, gifted

While on Pinterest a few days ago, I came across a blog that had this background. Boy was I happy when it was from 'The Cutest Blog on the Block'! Yay! A free, super cute design for the Christmas season! I adore the crowd of carolers the most! What do you think ?

What do you wear for dressy occasions ?
Have you been in any plays/choirs yet this year ?

Hope that you got a great start to your week!

                                                                              In Christ,

Benefits of a Thankful Spirit // in Snow!

Hey everyone!  This Saturday we were swamped by snow! Not the kind that stays a while, the kind that piles up on every single branch, every person standing still for more than one minute, all our back roads that do not get plowed in a hurry and the kind that I, a passionate lover of any season but winter, is amazed at. We were in the 50's and 60's just last week, this week we have 8" of snow and have plugged in the electric chicken waterer for good! I think that winter is here to stay- along with it's snows.Hot chocolate, here we come. :)                 Then again we do live in Michigan......

Even though last week as I shared our sermon about the importance of having a thankful spirit, our lesson this week was a slight review- with the topic of what we had uncovered- our Pastor shared the benefits of what we can reap after molding a grateful nature. So this week will just be short. :) Just a reminder, an encouragement to keep your attitude it check! Whew! We need it so much! All of us!
  • A grateful person will see an increase in their personal joy. Our attitude is effected by how we respond- are we quick to complain to argue ? Who is joyful after/while they are unhappy ?
  • Being a grateful person can improve your witnessing. When we are joyful people will want to be around us. We will attract the hurt, lonely, and unbelievers because of our nature of gratitude!
  • It will make our relationships flourish.Remember how much Paul talked about his love for the churches that supported him ? We need to be the same way in our own acquaintances.
  • It solidifies your relationship with God! One thing that God adores is a grateful spirit. It will make your love for God grow. And become solid. You will trust in Him.
Our main verses were from:   Ephesians 5:15-21

Boots, thrifted, $4 // Skirt, goodwill, $4 // Red longsleeved shirt, goodwill, $3 // Plaid scarf, gifted // Pearls, borrowed from me

I am somewhat amazed that I had yet to blog an outfit with this dress! I had been looking high and low for a LBD (little black dress) that was not sleeveless, above the knee, or too flouncy. I finally found this one at a newer thrift shop for five dollars! I was so happy! It had such a cute 50's cut! I know, it is just dying for a nylon petticoat. Perhaps in the summer.    :)
An extra bonus- it is USA made!
This belt. Need I say more ? I love this belt! My mom was out shopping without me one day last week and she is the one who found this piece of cute art work.  It has a leather strap that fastens with a pure brass buckle!  It is so unique! How many people can say that they have a belt with needlework sheep on it?!  One of my little dreams is to one day have a small herd of sheep. :)
This, new to me sweater is so pretty! I love the scalloping! I found it at a thrift store also! $2!  :)

Red Danskos, thrifted, $4 // Tights, gifted // Slip, made by me // Cotton Camisole, thrifted, $2 // Dress, thrifted, $5 // Sheep belt, thrifted, $1 // Green shrug, thrifted, $2 // Pearls, gifted // Barrette, thirfted, $3 // Small Barrette, ancient

Thanks to all of you for your lovely comments on my last post! I loved reading through them!

                                                                                                Snow or no snow ?
What was your sermon about ?

Tests from God (Pt.1) // In New Favorites

Hello! How are you all ? How was your weekend ?
Yesterday was my Dad's birthday so we had a few people over after our church services to celebrate. Our service was fairly usual, and since I am getting a (very) late start to this post, not to mention babysitting from 6a.m. to 8p.m. today, I will do my best to make this quaint and straight to the point- if you don't mind.  :)

Our sermon was about how God tests our faith- for our own good- because of His love for us to grow our faith in Him- not entirely a peachy subject. But we need to know that through things God is still there- He is still the One who made the Heavens and even the tiniest of details. Take a breath, close your eyes and put your face to the wind :) and just think about how much greater He is over everything!

The main verse, though only a part of it, is from Matthew 9:29
"According to your faith it will be done to you."

What are we expecting to accomplish out of life- yup, a big question. This is called the law of faith. God says you get to choose what you are going to see. Because "according to your faith it will be done to you." Another verse that follow these lines is Hebrews 11:6 "Without faith it is impossible to please God." We all like to be respected (obeyed) in some way- we are pleased when others take our advice. God is the same way. He is pleased when we trust Him. We can do all the right things and still not be pleasing the Lord if we are not doing it in faith. So it it important for us to learn how to live expectantly as we learn to live by faith. What are we expecting ? Whatever it is if it is not of faith, the Bible says it is sin! Yikes! So, we need to begin to live our life in faith understanding that our faith is going to be tested many times, different ways, and that faith is the thing that is going to be pleasing unto the Lord, because "Without faith it is impossible to please God."

Tests determine what we know and how we can apply to what we know to the problems that are given to us- right ? Not in every circumstance but, alot of the time God uses things that the world has tossed at us to stretch our faith- to make it grow so that we may grow closer to Him.We have to grow in our faith. In Luke 17:5 the apostles asked Jesus to increase their faith. They understood the importance of living by faith. We all want to have more faith- to be able to please God- to give us a stronger sense of expectation. How does God build our faith ? The secret is this- though not too exiting- is that our faith is built by God testing it.
"...because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance."
James 1:3
Everyday, big or small, we have a choice to make- either we trust in God, letting Him stretch our faith for us to grow, or we will give in. We each make our own choices, but God will always be there waiting for us- He will always be helping us along, picking us back up, all because of His great love!

I love thrifting! On Friday we took most of the day to do just that! A field trip kind of day for us I guess. :) My mom found this cute shrug for two dollars! yay! I love the color (of course!;)) and this belt was a super find about three weeks ago for one dollar! The tooling is fabulous! I am so glad now that I did not get around to blogging it- it is so perfect with this dress!  :) I was not sure on these shoes- not that they do not match, but I was debating whether or not to wear the shoes that Rebekah wore last week. These are so much more fun though! :) For my hair style I simply did a french braid from one side and tucked the ends underneath.
